Question about teething

My baby is getting all 4 of her top teeth at once and doesn't want to nurse. This nursing strike has gone on for at least a week. She only eats 30 seconds and then either falls asleep or pulls away and cries. I pump to keep my milk but she won't nurse longer then 1-3 minutes every 3-4 hours. What can I do? She also won't take the milk any of other ways and doesn't eat solids either. (she is 9 months old)

teething and not breastfeeding enough
by: Tracy

There are many moms who experience this same problem...it’s completely normal.
It is sometimes painful for a baby to suck while teething, have you tried her with a sippy cup or even an open cup, so that she doesn’t need to suck? Babies feel cranky when they are teething, so some might not feel like eating, while others breastfeed all the time for relief.

You can try giving a frozen face cloth to chew on, it will help her gums feel better and get some of the inflammation down. You can also make some breast milk popsicles; these will help for pain relief and get her eating something.

You can find out about vitamin drops at the chemist or local health store, this way you know she is at least getting in her vitamins.

Have you tried your baby with solids yet? Breastfeeding exclusively for the first year or so is fine, but I recommend that moms start solids from 6 months…even if just small amounts…this gets their digestive systems accustomed to other foods.

Homeopathic teething drops or tablets can work wonders, also avoid using teething jel just before breastfeeding, it numbs baby’s mouth making breastfeeding difficult.

Really hope this helps, please let me know how things go

teething necklace

We’ve used one since our son was about 4 months old. I was with you – pretty sure it worked, didn’t hurt, so we kept it. Then, around 10 months, his broke. Around 10 months, he started cutting 3 teeth at one time. Around 10 months, we went insane (he was up 5 times one night). We ordered a new one in the middle of the night one night, and counted the days til that little latvianamberstore.com box showed up at our door. I have since determined that they work, and they work wonders! He recently cut all 4 of his molars at once, and other than about a month straight of one middle of the night waking, he was happy and you would have barely known they were coming in!
