Abcess during breastfeeding

by Hina
(London)

When my baby was 3 months old and she was breastfeeding, I got abcess on my skin, my baby also got same abcess on her skin I don't have periods during this.

I was worried and I started bottle milk to my baby, then my periods back and abcess also gone my baby also gets fine. Now she is 6 months old now, which type of food I can give her now? And why I got that during breastfeeding?

continue breastfeeding instead of stopping
by: Anonymous

Hi Hina

It was not the breastfeeding that caused the abscess...that is for sure...because you said your baby had it too. If it wasn't something contagious you had, it actually would have been better to continue breastfeeding instead of stopping, because the breast milk would have helped you both heal faster...and we all know breast milk is so much better for baby too.

Did you see a doctor about the abscesses?

Are you still producing milk and have you started giving baby solids?

Some popular foods to start baby on
by: Anonymous

You can start with foods that are plain. You can give baby any foods…there is no specific order. Some popular foods to start baby on include: Banana, peaches, carrots, pears, squash, avocado and rice cereal.

Some moms like starting with rice cereal then soft things like smashed banana and finally offer meat and vegetables. A baby that is under six months old can be given food that is pureed, but when you think baby is ready you can start giving finger foods like pieces of fruit, rusks, toast.

You do not need to buy expensive baby foods or cereals, you can give baby whatever you have made for breakfast, lunch and dinner (just pureed if necessary)

Try to introduce as many different types of foods as possible. If baby doesn’t like something, you can always try it again later. By eight months of age you can make sure that baby has a combination of fruits, vegetables, meat, milk and iron fortified cereal in the daily diet.

having another baby
by: Anonymous

It is recommended to wait 18 to 24 months before having another baby, this is for women who have given natural birth and for those who have had c-sections.

Your body needs to recover and build up all the nutrients lost during the pregnancy. The blood loss could also cause moms to become anemic, which is also something that needs to be taken into account.

Some studies show that if you have babies too close to each other, the chance of last baby being low weight or premature are higher.

Another reason to wait is, to first adjust to having your new baby...before you have another one.
