skipping periods
by: Tracy, CBC, CLD (CBI)

Hi

It is very normal to have irregular periods while breastfeeding. You are most likely not pregnant, unless you have not been using protection.

You can become fertile, even before your first period arrives.

Skipping periods while breastfeeding is very normal though.

Period
by: Tracy

Hi Karen

No, it is not impossible, your fertility can return before you get your first period. Every woman is different where this is concerned.

The longer you breastfeed the more likely you are to ovulate (become fertile) before your first period arrives.

pregnany after period
by: Tracy, CBC, CLD (CBI)

Hi Susie

Yes, you can fall pregnant after your period, in fact some ladies are "fertile" even before their first period comes back after giving birth.

Once your periods have returned, you are fertile, whether you skip a few months or not.

worried that I'm pregnant

by Becky
(Hurricane,wv)

My baby is 10 months old. I've been breastfeeding since she was born. I got period ebb she was about 6 months. They are very light. Before I got pregnant they were super heavy flow and a lot of cramping. Now it's light and not much cramping.

The first day of my last period was July 2,2011. My husband and I had sex on the 9th of July. I'm a little worried that I'm pregnant. The only sign I'm having is I get nauseous after I eat breakfast, and I have lose stool 4-5 times in the morning. It's too early to take a test. What are the chances of getting pregnant that soon after my period?

Pregnancy during breastfeeding
by: Anonymous

Hi Becky

Those are definite signs of pregnancy. I would go to the doc and get a blood test if I where you.

Once you start your period during breastfeeding, it is a sign that fertility has returned.

pregnancy symptoms while breastfeeding

Hi,

I'm also having pregnancy symptoms and I did a pregnancy test last weekend and it tested negative , but still got all the pregnancy symptoms.

I'm still breastfeeding a seven months son and haven't had my period for 4mths.

Could it be that the pregnancy test is giving me false results or am I pregnant?

pregnancy results
by: Tracy

Hi

It is unlikely that you are pregnant, since your period has not returned yet, but there is still a slight chance that you are pregnant. About 5% of woman can become fertile just before the start of their first period. Wait it out another three weeks and take another test, the results will be more accurate then. If you don't want to wait you can always go get blood tests done at the doctors.

Am I pregnant?

Okay huge question ladies!
I think I might be Pregnant, hoping I am actually haha
I am a breastfeeding mother and am almost 8 months postpartum.
It’s July 20th
Two months ago, on may 8th, I had my period
Then on June 6th I started again
Had tons of unprotected sex between the 9th and the 12th of june..
Then from July 1st through July 12th I had tons of unprotected sex, daily.
So my period was supposedly due July 4th? But it never came
I assumed I was pregnant.
I’ve taken like 10 tests and one had a faint line but the rest were negative. .
The around July 13th I had brown discharge and brown bleeding but it was light and only lasted maybe 3 days ? It is now the 20th, I just took another home test and it was negative. .
Does it sound like I could be pregnant?
I have had fatigue and nausea bloating and am constantly hungry and thirsty
But my boobs are not tender at all

Hi, you can only take a pregnancy test 3 - 4 days after your next menstruation period. In other words take it in 18 days and it will give you accurate results.

hormones? Am I pregnant

After my daughter was born I had normal periods every month. She was strictly breastfeed up until she turned 1 year old.

The month I stopped breastfeeding my periods stopped as well. My last period was In the beginning of March. My daughter was completely off the boob by april.

Is it a hormonal thing or do I have something I should be worried about? I don't feel pregnant but I haven't ruled it out. I'm hoping I'm not though we aren't ready for another one as we have 3 and they are all young. Does anyone have any idea what's going on?

Periods
by: Lyssa

Often, women find their periods missing or irregular while breastfeeding. Then, as their baby slowly weans to nursing only several times a day, their period returns or becomes more regular.

Implantation bleeding is usually only light spotting and not heavy or constant flow. Light bleeding or spotting can also occur after sex where the cervix was irritated. If it is more than light spotting and more than one day, I would think signs point to it being a period.

Pregnancy can occur before your period returns, and can also happen with the withdrawal method.

Using a condom or other form of birth control would be good to prevent pregnancy and more effective than withdrawal.

Took pill plus breastfed, still got pregnant

I exclusively breastfed my daughter on the breast day and night on command (every 2-3 hrs).

After3 months of this I started my period. I began taking a low dose form of oral birth control prescribed by my doctor who knew I was nursing and assured me it was safe.

I took this pill at the same time everyday never missing or taking it late. However I still became pregnant when my daughter was 5 months old. I continued to nurse until my doctor told me to stop because it was not safe. Is it common for these things to happen while nursing?
