my thoughts
by: Tracy

Hi Janice

If you had a C-section, it is important to know that your milk might only come in by day 5.

You can pump your milk, until baby has more access to you, but try to breastfeed as much as possible to stimulate milk production.

The best type of pump to use, if you are going to be pumping exclusively for a while is an electric, double action, hospital grade one. You can usually hire them from a hospital at low cost.

You should think of getting hold of a lactation consultant in your area, so that she can help you work through the next two weeks and longer until you and your baby have established breastfeeding well.

Let the doctors and nurses know about your plans to breastfeed baby, so that they do not supplement with formula. A little colostrum is all your baby needs for the first few days, until your milk "comes in"

hand expressing and bottle feeding
by: Zoe Burton

Start hand expressing, the milk will start to come in, it will be drop by drop to start n you will need to use a syringe to catch it, but in 3 days it will start to flow more.. Maybe consider bottle feeding the express milk that's what I did as my baby was not able to latch as she was small and we were apart the first 3 days as I was in HDU.
