elevating at a 30 degree angle

by Kristen
(United States)

Hi, this page was very helpful. I believe my little 3 week old girl has acid reflux, she gets hiccups often, has trouble burping, curls legs in, clenches fist... I've noticed that during the day when I am up and she takes naps she sleeps so much better when her head is elevated on a pillow, for instances right now she is sleeping on her boppy pillow with butt on the ground.

At night I swaddle her and lay her on her back but she doesn't sleep well and fusses, it said elevating at a 30 degree angle can help, but i am scared of SIDS... I dont want to let her sleep like that if i am going to sleep... is it safe to let her sleep like that to help her reflux. thank you

wedged pillow
by: Anonymous

Hi

You can buy a wedged baby pillow that is safe. Just google it, I'm sure you will find plenty of options. I don't think it will be expensive.

You know, your baby could just be a little colicky too...my little girl is 4 months now and she still hiccups a lot, the pediatrician said it's normal for some babies to still hiccup quite a bit, some only stop after a year or so.

The good news is, it won't last too long, even if it is a little bit of reflux.

Elevating
by: Elsabe

One of my twincesses had silent reflux and also slept tons better when she didn't lie down flat. I place a pillow or wedge under the cot's mattress to elevate it. That way there is nothing in the cot she could suffocate against, but she's still elevated and more comfortable.

Hope that will help a bit. Good luck Mama!
