Other ways of increasing your milk supply
by: Tracy

Hi Kani, Thanks for your question

Why do you think your milk supply is low?

Sometimes it helps if you combine a few methods of increasing milk supply...

You can continue to take the fenugreek but then also...

- Make sure you are breastfeeding frequently. How often do you breastfeed? You must make sure that you're emptying your breasts every time baby feeds...this alerts your body to make more milk.

- Allow baby to comfort feed if he/she wants to. You can never breastfeed too often, the more you breastfeed the more milk you will start to produce.

- You can pump in between feedings or pump after breastfeeding to make sure that your breasts are as empty as possible...read more on this here

- You can use warm compresses on your breasts to help your milk flow during breastfeeding.

- Oatmeal has been found to help most moms increase breast milk supply, so try eating a bowl every morning if you can.

- Are you drinking enough water? Your body needs to be hydrated to keep up with a good milk supply. Try drinking at least 2Litres of water daily

- Are you eating enough?...you need to eat an extra 500 calories per day while breastfeeding

- One good way to increase your supply is to massage your breasts in-between feedings.

- Breast compression during breastfeeding can also help your milk flow better and increase supply in the long run...read more about breast compression here

I hope I've answered your question, if not please feel free to ask

eating the fenugreek seeds whole?
by: Anonymous

Were you eating the seeds whole? I don't think they work like that, and I'm sure you might get cramps too!!

You are supposed to seep them in water or grind them or sprout them. Maybe, they will work better, if you do this??

My advice
by: Tracy

I have found that the Fenugreek supplements do not work at all. I personally took about 8 tablets daily, which is the maximum dose and had absolutely no results.

As soon as I got the organic Fenugreek seeds (found at any herbal shop ~ Its cheap)I used them in a few ways;

I boiled the fenugreek seeds on their own and drank the water...this worked the best, saw results within hours and the results where great. The only downside is the taste.

I did also sprout the Fenugreek seeds, ate them and also saw an increase in supply, but not as much as the boiled fenugreek water. I did not enjoy eating them.

Finally I now make my own breast milk tea which contains a few other ingredients too, namely:
Fenugreek, blessed thistle, milk thistle, Alfalfa, Anise seed, fennel seed. Boil about two heaped table spoons of this dry mixture in two L of water and strain. I drink it hot with lemon juice and honey. This mixture has helped me so many times, its great. I drink a cup before bedtime. Next morning I have a lot more milk than usual. You can drink three cups daily.

Hope this helps

Help
by: Lyssa

Hello!

Breastfeeding with invirted nipples can be challenging. The first step would be to contact a lactation consultant to have hands on help.

An option many with low supply try is to use a SNS (supplemental nursing system). A tiny tube is taped next to your nipple and connected to a bag of milk(or formula). This way, baby is nursing at the breast and stimulating milk production, an also getting milk from the SNS.

I would increase you pumping to every 2-3 hours, if ypu haven't already. You also should be using a double electric breast pump for beat results. Hand expressing after, and pumping ten-twenty minutes after you feel "empty" will also help increase supply.

You can take natural "milk boosters" such as oats ( in the form of oatmeal, cookies, etc) or flax seed (throw into cookies or even a smoothie!).

But the most important first step would be to contact a lactation consultant in your area.

You can do it!!

2-3 tbs Fenugreek boiled in a kettle w/

After you put the *drink back in your mug, then add in
2 tablespoons black honey = Life saver

No sugar the black honey is the substitute, Taste a little strong at first, but you'll get used to it..

increase breast milk supply
by: Tracy

I would not use that combination to increase breast milk supply. Fenugreek is great but the Thyme might even stop the effects of the Fenugreek. Some moms say their milk supply actually drops with Thyme.
