Ground rules for lactation room

by Tracy
(Melaka, Malaysia. )

We are setting up a lactation room in our Company. Nonetheless, we have problems setting up ground rules in order to avoid misusing issues.

It will be great if you could share some with us.

Check out federal register no 75 vol 244 for being compliance ideas. Talk to other moms or moms to be to get a feeling for what will work for everyone. Best of luck!

Threats of being restricted from Lacatation room by another mom

by Nicole
(Hyde Park)

We have a room set up at my place of employment and have used it in the past; currently we have a mom that is very angry that there isn't a deadbolt she is very upset when others need to use the room. We are angry b/c if she is locked in the room and we need to get our expressed milk to leave in an emergency (ie sick kids) or are called away to a meeting we will not be able to have access to the room. We suggested a curtain like a doctors office but that was denied. Are we being unreasonable?

nursing cover?
by: Anonymous

No, I think she is being unreasonable and selfish. Why is she upset about it? You are all women!

A lactation room is a room that should be big enough for more than one mother to breastfeed at the same time...Is she upset because you have to open the door while she is breastfeeding? If so, why doesn't she just use a nursing cover?

This must be an acienct policy that requires review and made up to date with them modern concept of breast feeding being essential. Even moms decades ago were not ashame to breast feed in public.

Breast feeding in public
by: Zelda Behr

This is a subject that I am supporting.

I live in South Africa were there is a racial stigma that only black women can breast feed in public (without covering) no one will even glance twice at this.

I'm a very "liberated" mother with a boy and I get funny looks when i feed my son in public with a cover. I belief there is no difference between a breast and a bottle.

Here is a great article on this...

Apologizing for breastfeeding in public

by Me

Nice videos.
About six years ago I was in a Walmart where a young woman and her mother were shopping. As I went down an isle I discovered them. The younger woman was nursing her baby.
As I walked by she turned away and said I'm sorry sir.
I just couldn't help it.
I stopped and asked "sorry for what?"
She said for exposing myself like this.
I thought for a few seconds and said, "I see no unusual exposure, or disturbing display from you."
You are doing something quite natural and I find it very beautiful.
So stop apologizing. I apologize to you for our stupid society that seeks bars and topless dancing but finds breast feeding to be distasteful.
I got a thank you from both mother and daughter.
The baby didn't say anything. She was busy.

I didn't tell her that I was extremely jealous of the baby.
