Lump
by: Lyssa

It is often common to be told to do a self breast exam once a month to check for lumps starting in puberty. While not breastfeeding, when doing a breast exam, you may feel a "lump" or "disk" in the center. This is usually normal. Any change in the size of this lump or additional lumps while not breastfeeding could indicate a problem and should be brought up with a healthcare professional such as your doctor or midwife.

While breastfeeding, it is good to continue monthly self exams. Sometimes, additional lumps can be felt and indicate a blocked duct. If nursing and massage do not remove r lessen the lump, this indicates is is most likely not a blocked duct and you should consult a healthcare professional.

At all times, if you feel something is "wrong" or "off", you should contact your healthcare professional for medical advice.
