early return of mensus

Yes, it is normal, some moms have their periods come back straight after birth, others get away with years of having no period, it all depends on the individual.

Period While Breastfeeding

by saniya
(india)

Yes the above information is very true.I am having an eight month OLD baby,I am breastfeeding.I get a period like cramping every 15-20 days and getting a reddish dark brown discharge. I get very bad mood swings too.I guess its only hormonal changes that's causing this.

missing a few periods
by: Tracy

Hi Sudhasudha

It is possible to miss a few periods while breastfeeding. If you don't want to fall pregnant, please take precautions. Talk to your doctor about "breastfeeding friendly" options of birth control.
Here is a link too...

Breastfeeding and birth control

A pregnancy test is usually quite accurate about 4 days after a missed period.

Kind regards

Stoped breastfeeding had one period know I'm late.

by Mary
(H west bbritsNor)

I breastfeed for 1 year. I haven't had a period the whole time.

After I stopped it was 3 weeks and my period returned. Now I'm 9 days late. The Pregnancy test is negative. Can it be hormones or can I be pregnant?

Hi

It could be both. Take another pregnancy test in a couple of days.

dip in supply during a period
by: Tracy

I don't understand your question. Are you saying that you have started your period and you now have a low milk supply? If so, then yes. It is common for mothers to experience a dip in milk production during that time of the month.

Not normal
by: Tracy

Hi Pavithra

That is not normal. And that is not a period. Have you seen your doctor about this?

Please see a doctor. Let me know how things go. Once this is sorted, your supply may improve. It's really important that you see someone about the bleeding.

Irregular Periods
by: Pavithra

Hi Tracy,

My doctor is on vacation, in a day or two I will meet her and let u know the status.. And before pregnancy, my periods was so irregular. Will this have an impact on my milk supply while nursing.. when taken ultrasound scan, it was stated that one of the hormones was not producing enough..

impact on supply
by: Tracy

Hi Pavithra

It could definitely have an impact on the amount of milk produced. The hormones are important, but there are things that can help. Once your doctor has given you a clear indication of what's going on, we can decide what to do to increase your milk supply. Would it be possible for you to see a lactation consultant in your area?

Novelon contraceptive pill while breastfeeding
by: Tracy

Hi.

I'm not familiar with Novelon. I suppose it is a contraceptive pill?

Did you tell your doctor that you are breastfeeding?

Could you please send the product information of Novelon, so that I can look it up.

Also, where do you live? I could try to find someone who can help you in your area.

birth control and increasing supply
by: Tracy

The best advice I can give is to use the smallest dose and to use the pill with caution, especially Novelon because it contains the hormone estrogen which might lower your milk supply even more.

Here is a page I wrote about safe birth control pills to take whilst breastfeeding. Maybe you could talk to your doctor about alternative options that would help with your specific issues but not hamper your breastfeeding relationship. This page should help...

You could also try power pumping for a while...

herbal tea
by: Tracy

Hi

Yes should be fine, but like with anything you should keep an eye on your baby for any irritability.

You could also make your own tea (its much cheaper) Here is my recipe:

Late period while breastfeeding

Hi everyone, I had my baby boy seven months ago. I was exclusively breastfeeding until he started eating solids at six months.

My period returned last month June 2nd. I haven't gotten my period this month and took a pregnancy test on Monday June 3rd and had a negative result. I've been having cramps for the last six days. Could I be pregnant?

Could I have gotten a false negative?

The bong is real!

I breastfed my now 5 year old for 14 months. I didn't get my first period until 6 months after I stopped. Personally, I thought this was great. I now have an 11 month old, which I recently started bottle feeding during the day and breastfeeding before bed and once at night. I've been experiencing cramping and spotting. This article confirms my suspicions that my period should be coming soon.
