Shellfish allergy

by Andrea

My child just got diagnosed with having a shellfish allergy last night, it was his first time eating shrimp and we needed to go to the ER.

I am still breastfeeding him and I know I have to take shellfish out of my diet as well, however, I did have shrimp for dinner last night and I believe it's still in my breastmilk?

Am I ok to continue breastfeeding him while the shrimp may still be in my milk? How long should it stay in my milk?

Hi, Andrea

It can take up to 24 hours for the shellfish to clear from your breast milk.
