Sweet potatoes

by Michelle

I just tried my 6 month old on chunks of sweet potato and he gagged a lot more than usual. I felt like it was really dry, even for me. I am a bit nervous that it can pose a choking hazard. Can anyone give some advice or identify with this.

Thank you

Starting solids

There could be a few reasons for this.

* The new taste might be a little strange, so give it a few days before trying again.

* The sweet potato itself might be a dry one, I know, I have gotten some of these before.

* Try steaming it in the microwave to soften it a bit.

* Maybe your little one is not ready to start solids yet.

* He might prefer puréed foods, you can add some of his milk to the mix to give it a bit of a familiar taste.

Signs baby is ready for solids.

* Baby is between the ages of 4 and 6 months.

* Baby can sit by himself or supported on your lap or high chair.

* Your milk just doesn't seem enough.

* Baby reaches out to your food.

Solids basics.

* Introduce one new food every 3 days to make sure baby is not allergic to anything.

* If baby does not seem to like a specific food give it a few days before trying it again.

* Keep salt to a minimum, no salt is best.

* Fresh is best.

Hope this helps and good luck.
