This article helped me so much. When my daughter was two weeks old, I talked to a nurse about how often and how much she was spitting up. Her advice was to limit the amount I was feeding her to 10 minutes on each side per feeding, so I did.
I would pump for a few minutes before her first feeding in the morning and she was happy for most of the day. But as time went on, I noticed how cranky she was at night, and she would cry with each bowel movement.
I would call the advice nurse line and we were treating her for gas, diaper rash, reflux, and someone even suggested she had colic. It was frustrating because I knew she was uncomfortable, but I didn't know how to fix it.
At 7.5 weeks, I learned about foremilk hindmilk imbalance and all of our issues made sense! she wasn't fussy in the morning because she was getting enough hindmilk because I was pumping the foremilk. Thank you for this article. I have a much happier baby because of it!
