Thrush on baby, yeast infection on mom

My LO has had thrush for about 3 weeks now, dr. First prescribed gentian violet for baby and myself but that only seemed to have made things worse for him and myself.

Went back to the dr. And was prescribed nystatin for him, which seems to be working as I've been giving it to him 4 times a day for now 10 days. And dr. Prescribed diflucan for myself, which seems to have helped.

My question is: when is it safe to breastfeed again without the infection being passed back and forth between us, like I said my LO has minimal thrush now and my nipples seem to feel better.

You don't need to stop breastfeeding
by: Tracy

You do not need to stop breastfeeding at all. During a thrush infection the breastfeeding relationship should continue while the mom and baby are treated together to prevent cross contamination. Stopping can just lead to other issues such as mastitis and a low milk supply.
