Here’s a list of fruit, veggies and other foods that can be given as first foods for weaning.
Remember to introduce these weaning foods slowly, one by one, starting with more familiar ones and ending with the more “exotic” ones, if your baby doesn’t want a certain food, give it a few days and try it again.
A great tip for fruit that’s slippery like banana, is to roll them in sugar free crushed cereal or wheat germ.
You can also cut them with a crinkle cutter to make it easier to hold.

I have read so many articles on baby led weaning and loved the idea but, what to prepare?
So here are some recipes for weaning meals for babies.
Sweet Potato Ravioli
Peel, cook and mash sweet potato and add ginger. Mix dry ingredients. In a mixer set on low, start adding water and oil slowly to dry ingredients. Mix until it forms a ball. If mix is still dry add more water. Roll out the dough thin on a flowered surface. Cut into squares or press out circles with a cookie cutter. Scoop some sweet potato onto one of the cut pieces of dough. Cover it with another piece and press around the sweet potato with fingers. Decorate edge with a fork. Place ravioli’s, a few at a time in a saucepan with water; ravioli will float to the top when done. Let ravioli cool, can be served with tomato sauce.
Brain Food Bites
Mash together the avocado, fish and yoke. Spread on one side of bread, fold and cut into squats or spread onto tortilla, roll and cut into manageable pieces.
Creamy sweet potato
Wrap sweet potato in foil and bake till tender.
Let cool completely. Slice crosswise into 1 ½ inch wedges. Turn skin side down and scoop out a hollow in the middle. You can mash up the sweet potato. You scoop out and use it for something else. Mix the cottage cheese and pineapple and scoop into the hollows. Sprinkle some cinnamon over and serve as desert.
Cut out the core of the apple halves and scoop out some of the flesh to make a hollow. Chop up the apple flesh and mix with the sweet potato, cinnamon and butter. Place on a baking tray and bake for +/- 30 min at 170 deg C (350 deg F)Cool and serve.
Broccoli and cheese muffins
Pre-heat oven to 180 deg C (375 deg F)Mix broccoli, cheese and flower. Add oil, milk and tomato mix well. Grease muffin pan and scoop mixture in. Bake until golden brown (25-35 min)
Spiced sweet potato cubes
Cut peel and cut sweet potato into cubes. Steam or cook the cubes till tender. Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg. Cool and serve.
