Breastfeeding and increasing fertility

I'm weaning my son in a week, he will be completely off and be on 100 bottle. I use to have normal periods, but since his birth only had two periods.

If I stop breastfeeding him with no periods and don't get discharge, can i still get pregnant?

What is the chances of that as I really want to start trying for a baby. Is there something I can do to help my chances and make my periods return?

Am I fertile?

by Jinkie
(Philippines)

I was forced to stop breast feeding for 12 hours, due to my baby needing an operation at 5 weeks. Then I resumed breast feeding. My period returned, but is short, 20 days instead of my normal 29 days. Am I fertile? Can infertility resume?

fertility during breastfeeding
by: Tracy

Hi Jinkie

yes, if your period has returned, you might already be fertile or it can also take a month or so before your body becomes fertile, while on your period.

Trying to Conceive During Breastfeeding

by MiniMomo
(USA)

Hi, I conceived my oldest with the assistance of clomid.

He was exclusively breastfed until about 6 months. he is now 16 months.

I have had two periods one at about six months and one eight weeks later and that was it. He is currently breast fed once in the morning and once at night (occasionally in the middle of the night).

I would love to have another baby. Is there anything I can do to get my periods going again/ovulate without completely weaning?

Would love some advice.

Trying to conceive while breastfeeding
by: Tracy

Hi,

You might only need to decrease the duration of those feeds... Try to skip one of the feeds if/when you can. Also try to avoid any comfort feeding, when possible. The decreased nipple stimulation helps to improve the chances of your period returning.

What I did was instead of offering the breast at those times, I waited for her to ask.

Otherwise, if this doesn't work, you could temporarily wean, just to give your body "the signal" ;-)

I know that's going to be difficult for him, if he is very attached to the boob, try to do it gradually. If you want him to breastfeed again later, that's also okay... It is safe to breastfeed while pregnant. (Which I'm sure you know already)

I hope this was helpful

Trying to conceive while breastfeeding

I am currently trying to conceive while Breastfeeding my 17 month old toddler.

My period returned when he was four months old and has been regular. I've taken the clear blue ovulation test and it shows I ovulate.

The last two months I have been spotting before my period. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with Breastfeeding. Does it sound like it is preventing me from conceiving? Thank you.
