Concerned grandmother

I'm a grandmother to a beautiful grandson who I recently found out that the mother if smoking and breastfeeding.

She lies about smoking when it is apparent that she does. There is not much I can do but pray for the best.

My personal beliefs are that the baby comes first, and everything else is secondary. If you want to smoke because you enjoy it, you should eliminate breastfeeding to protect the child from any unknown side effects.

Hi

It is understandable that you are worried. It would be better for her to stop smoking altogether, but...

It is recommended to continue to breastfeed, even if you are smoking (that is if Baby is not showing any discomfort or allergic symptoms). Secondhand smoke is more harmful to a baby who is not breastfed.

The benefits of breastfeeding far outweigh any risk of smoking while breastfeeding.

I'm a young mum, and I have been smoking for three years now, my baby is two weeks old, and I'm afraid that it might affect her health.

If she decided to stop, then there is absolutely no risk because the marijuana will be out of her system within a few days.

I smoked like a gram of weed

by Shay
(Winn )

When would it be fine to breastfeed my baby again? I've smoked a gram and quit right after that. I fed him 4 oz of my breast milk and felt very bad after. So I put him on formula. How long would I have to wait to breastfeed him again? How long would it take for it to get out of my breast milk?

thats a bad one

I can only imagine the anxiety; you must be feeling right now. The only advice I can give is to either try to avoid the blood test, it is not necessary, or stop smoking from now until then, and hopefully, nothing will show up in the blood tests.

Smoked for the first time in 2 years

Last night, I smoked pot for the first time in 2 years. I'm currently still breastfeeding my 7-month-old. Now I'm freaking out about everything. I nursed her at about 8:00 this morning but gave her pumped milk throughout the night. When can I safely nurse her again?

Yes, we had childcare for the evening. Yes, I know it was a lapse in decision making.
Yes, I already nursed her once at breakfast.

Smoking and breastfeeding

Firstly I would advise quitting smoking, but if it's difficult here are some guidelines...

It is better to breastfeed, and smoke than formula feed and smoke as breast milk protect against respiratory problems.

-Smoke after a feed it takes 95min for the harmful chemicals to work out of your body.

-Don't smoke close to your baby as secondhand smoke is hazardous.

-Try smoking less and no more than 20 per day.

Smoked once

by nikky
(queens, ny, usa)

I use to smoke before getting pregnant to control my anxiety. Naturally, throughout my pregnancy, I didn't dare to use but went out once, and I took a few pulls, but I breastfeed now, how long do I wait to breastfeed again? I don't want to harm my child, and I won't be smoking still. It wasn't worth it.
